Muay Thai Weight Divisions
The official world governing body for professional Muay Thai – the World Muay Thai Council, has established the rules on the Muay Thai weight divisions as follows:
Division Weight Limits
- Mini Flyweight. Fighters must weigh from 100 pounds or 45.454 kg but not exceeding 105 pounds or 47.727 kg.
- Light Flyweight. Fighters must weigh more than 105 pounds or 47.272 kg but not exceeding 108 pounds or 48.988 kg
- Flyweight. Fighters must weigh more than 108 pounds or 48.988 kg but not exceeding 112 pounds or 50.802 kg
- Super Flyweight. Fighters must weigh more than 112 pounds or 50.802 kg but not exceeding 115 pounds or 52.163 kg
- Bantamweight. Fighters must weigh over 115 pounds or 52.273 kg but not exceeding 118 pounds or 53.524 kg
- Super Bantamweight. Fighters must weigh more than 118 pounds or 53.524 kg but not exceeding 122 pounds or 55.338 kg
- Featherweight. Fighters must weigh more than 122 pounds or 55.338 kg but not exceeding 126 pounds or 57.153 kg
- Super Featherweight. Fighters must weigh more than 126 pounds or 57.153 kg but not exceeding 130 pounds or 58.967 kg
- Lightweight. Fighters must weigh more than 130 pounds or 58.967 kg but not exceeding 135 pounds or 61.235 kg
- Super Lightweight. Fighters must weigh more than 135 pounds or 61.235 kg but not exceeding 140 pounds or 63.503 kg
- Welterweight. Fighters must weigh more than 140 pounds or 63.503 kg but not exceeding 147 pounds or 66.678 kg
- Super Welterweight. Fighters must weigh more than 147 pounds or 66.678 kg but not exceeding 154 pounds or 69.853 kg
- Middleweight. Fighters must weigh more than 154 pounds or 69.853 kg but not exceeding 160 pounds or 71.575 kg
- Super Middleweight. Fighters must weigh more than 160 pounds or 71.575 kg but not exceeding 168 pounds or 76.204 kg
- Light Heavyweight. Fighters must weigh more than 168 pounds or 76.364 kg but not exceeding 175 pounds or 79.379 kg
- Cruiserweight. Fighters must weigh more than 175 pounds or 79.379 kg but not exceeding 190 pounds or 86.183 kg
- Super Cruiserweight. Fighters must weigh between 190 to 210 pounds or 40.909 to 95.455 kg
- Heavyweight. Fighters must weigh between 210 to 230 pounds or 95.455 to 104.545 kg and up
- Super Heavyweight. Fighters must weigh over 230 pounds or 104.545 kg and up
Rules and Regulations
- Fighters must be at least 15 years old to qualify for competition in any of the weight divisions.
- Minimum weight of fighter is 100 pounds to qualify for competition.
- The weight difference between two fighters competing against each other must not be more than five pounds.
- Muay Thai fights cannot commence until fighters have at least three hours of rest after the weigh-in.
- Weighing-in must be done without clothes on the competition day between 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The stadium manager may change the weigh-in schedule with valid reasons.
- Muay Thai fighters must have their physical examination checked by a doctor to certify that they are physically fit to compete. This will be done before weigh-in.
- The manager or representative of the fighters may witness the weigh-in process.
